I have a movie (The Spirit) and I want to upload it to a file sharing site like Rapidshare or Megaupload. I live in Canada. I want to know if it is illegal of if I can be fined (some sort of consequence) for doing this. The movie is copyrighted and I do not own it. What can happen?

If what you are uploading is still copyright protected then yes it’s illegal, but I can’t see anyone prosecuting you just for uploading. Normally things stay in copyright for 7 but I’m not gonna wait 7 years to upload something. I upload files all the time (copyright protected, I can’t see anything happening lol).
But when I first started they use to be deleted off Rapidshare in about 3 weeks and that was when I was giving them actual real titles so now I just type gibberish for the title and give the file a password so no one can see it without my permission. That way the link stays alive for much longer.
